My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’m an eclectic pagan who has been looking for a good Christian book to review for my blog. I loved the concept of this series so I contacted Ms. Boyce and she sent me a free copy of the first book to review.
This is the first book in a series designed to teach tolerance and acceptance to children in grades three through five. If this book is any indication of the series, this will be a great series for parents and grandparents to read with their kids. There are several opportunities in the 79-pages of the first book for parents and grandparents to discuss major issues – like smoking cigarettes – with their children.
The majority of this book focuses on setting up the rest of the series. We meet the main characters, the Sisters of the Last Straw. The nuns are a quirky cast of characters and their antics are dispersed with Biblical parables.
The mystery lacked depth to me; granted, it's been a long time since I've been a member of this book's intended audience!
I’m eager to read the next installment and I anticipate the day when this series can be sold in boxed sets - I have a feeling that this is the way I will recommend buying them.
